السلفوناميدات قد يكون نظاميا استيعابها عندما يطبق على الجلد أو العين أو الأغشية المخاطية. استخدام السلفوناميدات ارتبط السمية الدموية, بما في ذلك ميتهيموغلوبينيه, سلفهيموغلوبين الدم, الكريات, المحببات, فرط, فقر الدم الانحلالي, فقر الدم اللاتنسجي, البرفرية, تخثر الدم, قلة الصفيحات, نقص فبرينوجين الدم ، بنقص البروثرومبين. العلاج الموضعي السلفوناميدات ينبغي أن تدار بحذر في المرضى الذين يعانون مسبقا اعتلالات الدم أو قمع نخاع العظام. تعداد الدم الكامل يجب أن يكون تم الحصول عليها بصورة منتظمة خلال العلاج لفترات طويلة (>2 أسابيع) ، ينبغي توجيه المرضى إلى التبليغ عن أي علامات أو أعراض توحي اعتلال الدم مثل الحمى والتهاب الحلق عدوى محلية, نزيف, شحوب, دوخة, أو اليرقان.
